In 2024, Saskatchewan experienced modest economic growth, with employment up by 2.6%, adding over 15,500 positions year-to-date by September, particularly in sectors like professional services, healthcare, and education. Full-time jobs saw the largest gains, while part-time positions also increased. However, certain industries, including utilities, construction, and finance, saw declines in employment. The unemployment rate rose from 4.9% to 5.6%, with a notable increase in those not in the labor force. Housing starts increased by 5.2%, driven mainly by single-family homes and row units, and the Housing Price Index rose by 4.7%. Inflation remained relatively low at 1.5%, with food and shelter costs contributing the most to price increases. Retail trade and motor vehicle sales saw gains, while manufacturing and wholesale trade faced declines. Saskatchewan's population grew by 2.5%, largely due to international immigration, while real GDP growth was projected to slow further. The Bank of Canada also reduced interest rates in response to economic conditions.
